Camerata Cornello

Description

A small village located on the right bank of the Brembo. The historians narrate that the first hamlets of Camerata Cornello, like many other villages nearby, were founded at the time of the Barbarian invasions, when the frequent raids induced people to seek shelter in not easily accessible places.
Despite this district may seem a small village lost in the mountains, it is the birth place of the Postal System. The Tasso Family, in fact, made Cornello Camerata, in the XV century, the center of the communication network which linked with the Brembana Valley. This activity of the Tasso enlarged and spread first in the Veneto Region and, later, throughout Europe.
It is possible to visit the district of Cornello dei Tassi, between the most characteristic and best preserved of Lombardy, thanks to the isolation that the village experienced in recent centuries and to recent renovations. The church, which dates from the XIV century, preserves a series of superb frescoes, flanked by a Bell Tower with double arched windows in Romanesque style and the Palazzo Tasso that was also a watchtower for its dominant location.
Not to miss: the Parish Church of Camerata, entitled to Santa Maria Assunta and built in the XVII century.
