All of the vegetables and herbs that feature in our cuisine are organically grown in the gardens of Villa Maria, our sister hotel across the road. Suspended between sky and sea
Diamond that bewitches
Sublime beauty that melts the heart
Ravello, I will sing for You
and then dream, wake up at Thy
torpor and with open eyes still
dream and never stop loving

(the friend of Ravello) Eddie Oliva

"If there is still some memory among us of lost paradise, this is Ravello, suspended between sky and sea, and packed of poetry that Nature and Art have happily provided for the joy of people," the critic and essayist Gino Tani writes of the city, whose name derives from post-classical Latin RES BELLA (meaning beautiful thing). A Roman city, wealthy due to its trade with the East, which coined its own money and which financed the crowned heads of the time.

The Pearl of the Amalfi Coast has been the destination of many greats in the past, of Grand Tour travellers, writers, poets, musicians, actors, politicians. Boccaccio, who visited it often, highlighted its beauty and one of his finest tales in the Decameron is indeed set in Ravello.

Many novels have been written here, to mention a few Gide's "The Immoralist" and Forster's "The Story of a Panic." Gore Vidal over thirty-three years wrote many of his masterpieces here, and Wagner was inspired by it for his Parsifal.

In more recent times, was the notable visit of Jacqueline Kennedy, hosted by the Italian government, for a month in Ravello with the whole family. Amongst others, Hillary Clinton, Susan Sarandon, Matt Dillon, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Edward Norton and Woody Harrelson, whose youngest daughter Ravello was born and named after the city, have vacationed here. The King of Italy, Umberto di Savoia, abdicated in Ravello, where he stayed with the whole court in the last months of his reign.

Ravello is home between the months of March and October to chamber music concerts and to the most famous classical music festival in Italy in the magnificent gardens of Villa Rufolo. For further information on the festival you can visit www.ravellofestival.com and www.ravelloarts.org.

UNESCO World Heritage maintains that Ravello combines its superb beautiful ancient times villas, breathtaking cliffs, churches, picturesque medieval streets with a very healthy and uncontaminated environment.
