Description

Pogerola, hamlet of the town of Amalfi, is a delightful village, famous for its quite atmosphere and fresh healthy air. During the Middle Age it was known as Castrum Pigellula, a defensive castle which, together with the Castrum Scalelle and a fortified boundary wall, defended the town of Amalfi against the Saracens. From here you can admire the enchanting scenery of the Gulf of Naples, the Amalfi coast, the Li Galli Islands and, in the lower part of the hill, the hamlets of Lone and Pastena. The XVI century church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, located in the main square of the village, the XII century church of Santa Maria Vergine, with a beautiful portico covered with a vault in the form of cross, and the XII century church of San Michele, worth a visit.
