Ponteranica

Description

Ponteranica is a town in the province of Bergamo, set not too far from the provincial capital, at the foot of the Maresana Mount, near the Morla river.
It is mentioned for the first time in a document of the XII, in addition to the hamlet Prato della Rovere.
The Parish Church of the Saints Alessandro and Vincenzo, dating back to the XV century, is very interesting. It conserves, on the altar, to the left of the presbytery, a polyptych in six sections painted by Lorenzo Lotto in 1522.
Historic-artistic monuments of interest in the area also include the Parish Church of San Salvatore, in the Rosciano locality; as regards the original XV century construction, it conserves a small portico, with outstanding sixteenth century frescoes. Nor should visitors forget the Church dei Disciplini (XVII century), and the complex structure of Moretta Castle, which contains the remains ofcivil and rural buildings, as well as the small church of San Rocco.
