Medolago

Description

Medolago is a town in the province of Bergamo, not too far from the provincial capital. The place name derives from the latin expression "medio-lacus", because it was located at the centre of the ancient Gerundo Lake, drained in the Middle Age. The first human settlemen date back to the Roman period; soon after it passed under the control of the Holy Roman Empire and took part to the battles between Guelphs and Ghibellines. For this reason, in fact, a great number of fortifications were built in the area.
Among the most interesting monuments we have to mention the Parich Church, with a beautiful painting of Our Lady and an organ of 1859, and the Medolago-Albani palace, owned by the homonymous family, surrounded by a deep moat, denoting the use as a castle.
