Caldaro sulla strada del vino (Caldaro on the wine route, in English, Kaltern an der Weinstraße, in German) is a town in the province of Bolzano, set at the foot of the mountain range of Meldola, near the wood of Monticolo. It is surrounded by a beautiful landscape, composed by hills cultivated with vines, woods and olive groves; here you can breathe the typical freshness of the areas located at the South of the Alps. Lake Kaltern, swimming from April to October, is the ideal place for sailing lovers.
The place name probably derives from the Latin word "caldaria" (boiler) and is documented for the first time in the IX century.
Historical manor houses in the Überetsch architectural style set the tone for the image of the village.
