The tradition of winegrowing in the Davaz family is several decades old. The Davaz have been cellaring wine in their vineyard between Fläsch and Maienfeld in the Bündner Herrschaft of Switzerland (Domain of the Grisons Lords ) since the early seventies. Sons Johannes and Andrea were originally winegrowers and cellarmen who subsequently pursued a formal training as oenologists. The family then took over «Poggio al Sole», and the elder son, Johannes now lives with his family in Tuscany.
Land of sun and romance, of stone, of story and of sensuous delights. The land for lovers of art and culture. For gourmets. Where time waits for you. Waits while you drink in the sunbaked olive groves and sloping vineyards......
Poggio al Sole lies in the very heart of Tuscany, in the glorious countryside between Florence und Sienna. To be exact: between Tavarnelle Val di Pesa und Greve in Chianti. There are documents in the archives of the nearby abbey of Badia a Passignano which claim that olives and wine were produced on this estate as early as the 12th century.
The estate at Poggio al Sole boasts three most attractive holiday homes.
The approximately 15 hectares of vine slopes face south-east to south-west and are about 320-480 metres above sea level. Only 400-600 grammes of grapes are harvested from each square metre. In this way, blessed by Nature and nursed with loving care, the great wines of Poggio al Sole are born. The constant temperature and modern equipment of the wine cellars ensure that all due care and attention is lavished on the treasured grapes for the rest of their onward journey in the wine-making process.
