Description

This is a treasure trove of beauty that conserves fours gems which have been declared World Heritage sites by UNESCO: Siena, with its Palio, Pienza, with its enchanting historic center, San Gimignano, with its towes, and the authentic rural universe of Val d'Orcia. This territory is rich in typical landscapes, such as the Crete, the clayey and marly soils of hills and knolls upon which erosion has formed crevices, chasms and rifts, or the characteristic medieval villages, immersed in the Tuscan country quiet. Do not miss to taste, among the specialties of Senese cuisine, the pici (a form of hand-made spaghetti), the ribollita (a typical local vegetable soup), mixed roasts and game, cacio pecorino cheese, the 'minestraccia' (black cabbage and sour cream) from Val di Merse, the mushrooms, the tripefrom Val d'Elsa and the wild boar from Monticiano. All accompanied by incomparable Tuscan wine. As far as the Sienese area is concerned: the Val d'Elsa is well known for its production of excellent wines such as Chianti Colli Senesi, Chianti Classico, San Gimignano DOC and the Vernaccia di San Gimignano. The Brunello di Montalcino is also well worth a taste.
