The Monte Cicogna Farm is situated in Moniga del Garda, in the Valtenesi area near Brescia on the western bank of Lake Garda. With its Mediterranean microclimate influenced by the lake itself and the surrounding belt of wooded hills, this area is ideal for growing grapes and olives. The morainic soil is made up of clay and lime. Some of the vineyards and olive groves are situated around the farm and the manor-house in a raised position about 1 kilometre from Lake Garda, on the hillside which slopes gently down to the Lake. The other vineyards are near a wooded hill which bears the same name as the farm, slightly further inland.
They continued to make typical wines from the Garda Classico D.O.C. and Lugana D.O.C. until the end of the sixties when they started to replant selected varieties of wine. This development continued through the seventies and eighties when the vineyards were gradually increased and the wine-making process was improved by Alessandro and Cesare Materossi, the fourth generation of the family.
The Monte Cicogna Farm was founded in 1935 by the Materossi family, who had been producing wine since 1908.
