Sirmione
Description
Located on the Southern bank of Lake Garda, in correspondence with a long and narrow peninsula that divides the gulfs of Desenzano and Peschiera, Sirmione - Sirmio for the Roman people - is a famous spa and holiday destination.
Sirmione still holds all the ancient ruins of the famous villa which is said to belong to the famous Veronese poet Caio Valerio Catullo who lived in Sirmione during the first century B.C..
Between 1277 and 1278 the Scaligero Fortress, with imposing embattled towers, was built in order to defend the area.
This delightful resort offers the visitor enchanting panoramas of the lake along with the possibility of practising various water sports (windsurfing, sailing). The area has sports and recreational facilities, a dock and a small port.
