Description

Un-corking a bottle of fine wine. A moment that symbolises celebration, adventure and expectation of undiluted olfactory bliss. Our fondest memories evolve from such stimulation of our senses. However, delivering on such a promise is a considerable challenge for today's sprawling cash-crop vineyards but less so for bespoke family run estates like Caseo. Our passionate orchestration of tradition and science has unleashed truly dramatic red wines and astonishingly aromatic whites. The Caseo Estate's distinguished lineage can be traced right back to its medieval 12th century origins under Visconti Scaramuzzi. Today its honoured owners, the Naro family, devote 50 of their 70 hectares to growing an extensive range of grape varieties whilst the remainder is dedicated to cereals and cultivated woodland.

The Caseo Estate is located on a hill sloping down from 450 to 350 metres in elevation and due to the soil composition, the humidity and the day/night temperature range, it is an ideal enviroment to make top red wines and amazingly aromatic white wines. THe Estate grows grapes typical of the Oltrepò Pavese, such as Croatina, Barbera, Pinot Noir, Moscato, Italian Riesling and Rhein Riesling, as well as recently planted grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. The vines are trained with two systems: guyot and cordon. THe organoleptic characters of these grapes are enhanced by a short pruning, close planted vines, no tilling of the soil and the use of limited manure.

The cellar was already in use during Visconti times. Recently it was completely renovated with an up-to-date equipment, though in the full respect of the tradition. THe historical environments have been allotted to the barrel maturation and to the refining processes of the most valuable wines. The cellar presently has a 2.500 hl capacitly, of which 500 hl is in barriques and 2.000 hl in stainless vats. After an adequate period of maturation and, for some wines, of barrel refining, all wines are bottled in the Caseo cellar.
