Description

Working the land and growing grapes is not just a way of making a living for us, but also an attempt to cherish and preserve the land on which we live. The relationship between the producer and the rich land from which we make our wines, strives to maintain a delicate balance, based on respect for the land, the ability to conserve it while reaping its rewards at the same time. It can be summarised in one sentence: The land is not a gift from our ancestors, but a loan from our children. And it is with this in mind that that we set out on the adventure which is winemaking.

Our parents instilled pride for our land in us from early childhood, making the acquisition of vineyard sites our primary objective. Today the winery has 70 hectares of land, 61 of which are planted with vines trained using the Guyot system. In joining VIDE, the group of producers from all over Italy committed to excellence in wine, we were further motivated to produce the best and most 'typical' wines possible, using only local grapes grown in the southern part of Lake Garda. Thus, during this era of excessive use of international varietals, our efforts were concentrated on developing indigenous, often ancient varieties, bringing back long-gone, local grapes such as Pozzolenga and learning more about autochtonous varietals.

Respect is the common denominator for our wines; respect for the land in which they are produced, the characteristics of the variety and last but not least respect for those who drink our wines. Indeed the latter has been one of our main points of reference, as we believe that valuing our customers' judgement is an important part of growing and improving our wines. We consider ourselves as interpreters of this great variety, together with our fellow producers in the area. We think of them as colleagues, rather than competitors. In Lugana, there are several different interpretations of this wine, from light and undemanding through to structured and long-lived, from alluring bubbles through to the sweet fresh style obtained when married with other grapes to produce Lugana I Frati, Lugana Brolettino, Lugana Brolettino Grand'Annata, Lugana Spumante Brut Metodo Classico Cuvee dei Frati, Benaco Bresciano Pratto and the dessert wine, Tre Filer.

The red varietals produce wines of great intensity and charm, capable of longevity and distinguished evolution. Benaco Bresciano Ronchedone and Ronchedone Grand'Annata. Each phase of production, both in the vineyards and the cellar, is skilfully and accurately monitored. This includes judging the colour and maturity of the grapes, which give the wine a unique character and personality, through to the vinification of each individual vineyard. We respect the natural rhythms of the new wine, using minimal intervention with batonnage and lees contact only where required. We try to safeguard delicate aromas with careful oak treatment. It is our passionate belief that our meticulous, careful work in the vineyards needs to be matched in every aspect of our winemaking.
