Pertosa
Description
Its name derived from the dialectic word "pertusu" (entrance), referring to the entrance of the grottoes of the Angel. These ones, in fact, represent the symbol of the town, visited by numerous tourists every year. Many remains document that these grottoes were inhabited since the Prehistory; subsequently they became a religious site first for Greeks and Romans and then for Christians, who dedicated them to St. Michael Archangel. They represent the most important Karst phenomenon of the Campania region.
They allow you to take a leap into the past, into a Wonderland where every sound and everything will enchant you! What a marvelous natural spectacle!
At the entrance of the grottoes there is an altar dedicated to St. Michael and a boat that will introduce you in the cavity in a very suggestive way, crossing an underground river called Fiume Negro.
