Montesano sulla Marcellana is an agricultural centre of Medieval origins situated in the province of Salerno. The town is dominated by its castle and by the presence of an imposing monastery.
Situated on an upland plateau on the slopes of the Apennine mountain chain of the Maddalena, in the area of Vallo di Diano, south of Salerno, which is roughly 120 kilometres away, the town, by its very name, appears to augur health and good fortune to all who visit, attracted by the quality of its thermal springs.
The cold mineral water which gushes forth from the subsurface is used for treating a variety of ailments, including respiratory dysfunctions, arthritis, rheumatic and dermatological conditions.
