The Casanova di Neri farm began in 1971 when Giovanni Neri bought a large estate within the territory of Montalcino.
Over the years our continuing goal has been the search for and purchasing of land which we believe to be optimal for growing high quality grapes. The result is that today we have about 36 hectares of vineyards divided between four quite distinct areas: il Pietradonice in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, le Cetine in Sant'Angelo in Colle, il Cerretalto and il Fiesole near the farmhouse of the same name facing Montalcino.
As the grapes have improved in quality so more care and attention has been taken in the winery from the vinification to the use of casks of differentsizes and made from different types of wood.
Our greatest pride is our vineyards: their high quality and their history.
The "Fiesole" vineyard is situated opposite the farmhouse of the same name where we have our offices and winery. This is the farm's oldest vineyard, situated 350 metres north-east of Montalcino.
The grapes from this vineyard are usually used to produce our Brunello di Montalcino. Nearby we find the "Poderuccio" vineyard. It is situated at 350 metres above sea-level. These grapes are also used to produce our Brunello di Montalcino.
In 1986 we bought Cerretalto, a magical place. It is a natural amphitheatre near the Asso river at a height which varies between 250 and 300 metres above sea-level. Its position to the east of Montalcino means that it has a unique and unmistakable "Terroir".
On the opposite side of Montalcino to the south-east, near Castelnuovo dell'Abate we find the "Pietradonice"vineyard.
The earth, the position, the microclimate, the choice of clones, the grafting and a well organised vineyard all help to produce great grapes which improve each year.
Il terreno, l'esposizione, il microclima, la scelta dei cloni, portainnesti, sesto di impianto ci stanno dando delle grandi uve ogni anno migliori.
In a single word - magnificent.
PLast but not least, thanks to its fine landscape and uncontaminated nature is the "Cetine" vineyard. Here we have 25 hectares facing south south-east on a magical hillside near Sant'Angelo in Colle.
The thyme and other plants typical of the Mediterranean scrub and the extreme drop in temperature at night contribute to give us fruit of incredible quality. Every year this Sangiovese gives us the hope and strength to become even better.
Fantastic and magic.
The Holiday Farmhouse
The Casanova di Neri properties are set amongst the vineyards and olive groves of the Montalcino countryside. There is an apartment at Fiesole, a farmhouse dating back to the 16th century. It enjoys a spectacular view which changes with the seasons: from the bright green of April to the golden yellow of July. It is called Fiesolino. It consists of an entrance-living room with kitchen, bathroom with shower, double bedroom and single bedroom. Breakfast is included with an overnight stay, with tasting of jams made by Casanova di Neri. Opposite the cellar the Poderuccio is currently being renovated to become a reception facility for visitors and customers. It will be ready in 2011.
