Mulazzo
Comune di Mulazzo in inverno foto profilo Facebook
Description
Mulazzo is a small town in the province of Massa Carrara, in the high Lunigiana area, inhabited since the ancient times, as the finding of many anthropomophic sculptures, known as "statue-stele" of the Lunigiana area, evidences.
The village was founded by the Byzantines during the Early Middle Age and in 1164 it passed under the jurisdiction of the Malaspina family, who fortified it. During the XIV century the famous poet Dante Alighieri went to Mulazzo to visit Franceschino Malaspina, having this latter invited the poet in order to put to end an existing controversy with the Bishops of Luni.
The village is characterised by several castles, such as the Mulazzo castle with the so-called Tower of Dante, the Gavedo castle and the Lusuolo castle.
We also suggest to visit the ancient Church of San Martino (1297), the Sanctuary of Madonna del Monte and the "Alessandro Malaspina study center".
