Laterina
Description
Set on a hill in the high Valdarno area, Laterina was inhabited since the ancient times, documented by Etruscan and Roman remains, founded in Impiano and near the ancient Pieve of San Cassiano.
Its names derives from the presence of numerous brickworks. The old village is gathered around the square onto which the Church of Santi Ippolito and Cassiani faces. The name originates from the old pieve which stood outside the historic centre. Inside there is an altarpiece by Domenico Puligo (XVI century).
The Oratorio di San Rocco (XVI century), the Santuario di Santa Maria in Valle and the remains of Medieval fortifications are interesting too.
