Capolona

Description

Capolona, set along the valley lined by the Arno river, is usually defined as the gateway of the Casentino area. Its name probably derives from "Campo Leone" or "caput Leone" and it is already mentioned in a document dated back to 943, that testifies a donation of the area to a lord from Arezzo.
The Pieve di Santa Maria Maddalena, documented in the XI century, is a nice Romanesque style Church, with three navies and beautiful frescoes of Aretine school.
The Pieve di San Giovanni Battista, whose originary structure is dated back to the V century, the Pieve di San Michele Arcangelo, the Church of San Martino sopr'Arno, documented since 1017, and the Water Museum "La Nussa", one of the many environmental museums of the Casentino area, are interesting too.
