Assago

Description

Municipality of Milan province, South-west of Milan, Assago has ancient origins, evidenced among others by recent archaeological excavations carried out near to the Church of St. Desire. According to a well-established theory, the name derives from the Latin word "Assagum", founded by the proper name "Assius" and the suffix "acus" (ager = field), thereby tracing the origins of the figure and work of a Roman colonist, who established here for first, a villa surrounded by vast and fertile farmland, given the abundant presence of water springs.
The Parish of St. Desiderius (XIII century), preserves frescoes of the XV century and features a single nave, separated from the chancel by a balustrade. Other religious buildings of the area, are the Church of St. Hilary to Bazzana, the Church of Santa Margherita to Bazzana and the Church of St. John the Baptist to Bazzanella.
In addition to the modern business center of Milanofiori and the Forum, a well equipped multi-sports center that regularly hosts cultural events. In Assago survive several farmsteads, that evidence the ancient agricultural vocation of the area, such as the Cascina Bazzanella, which dates back to the XVII century.
