Description

Valpanera, with the help of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, has decided to dedicate its resources to the production of the Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. This ancient vine, which originated in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, has found the perfect environment for its development here in our land. Delicious wines are derived from this unique grape that are the result of a natural selection, unchanged over the centuries.

We work our land using natural methods, which have very little impact on the environment. In the winery we employ the most sophisticated technologies which allows us to produce Refosco of the highest quality.

Our vineyards are located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region near the ancient Roman port of Aquileia. Here, the combination of the soil, an alluvial mix of clay and sand, and the optimal climatic conditions, are essential elements in the production of classic Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso.

The vines are trained according to the Guyot system and the rows are aligned to optimise exposure to the sun. The management and cultivation of the vines are entirely carried out by internal staff, and mostly by hand, in order to follow the traditional process step by step and to ensure the best possible results.

The winery is situated at the centre of the company's vineyards, and has been built with the best and most advanced technology in order to guarantee both safety and extremely high hygienic standards.

In order to achieve the most appropriate maceration of the red grapes three different kinds of temperature-controlled vinification are used according to the quality and maturity of fruit at harvest:

1. Traditional vertical stainless steel tanks with remontage

2. Traditional vertical stainless steel tanks with pigeage and/or submerged cap

3. Horizontal rotary fermentors

The best wines selected every year will be matured in French oak casks. Among these wines will be the Refosco Superiore, the Refosco Riserva and the blend, Alma.

The Refosco Superiore will spend at least six months in oak casks while both Alma and the Refosco Riserva will mature here for 18 months before being bottled.

The last part of the wine making process is the bottling, carried out on the premises with a dedicated cold, sterile line. All wines are sterile filtered.

Valpanera is a supplier, not only in Italy, but also abroad of prestigious customers who appreciate an artisinal product that reflects more than 2,000 years of winemaking tradition. Although not open to the public, the winery boasts an excellent welcome centre for our trade customers.
