Description

Harmoniously placed in the view of Tufo's hills, the Farm Torricino rises near an ancient medieval tower (= torre in Italian, hence the name Torricino), on a hill facing south on the right of the river Sabato.

It enlarges on a surface of 8 hectares of vineyard, whose land is clayey calcareous, with thick sulphur - veins, exclusively planted with Greco of Tufo.

"The first rule is about the care of the Vineyard. The Land is part of our life, and the owning of a surface has fastered a direct and immediate relationship, so we take care of the land as it were our home".

But it is the nature of the lands that makes a difference. The economy of Tufo has been based for years on the sulphur mines discovered in 1866 and this explains why sulphur and its humours are so deep-rooted in the history of the land, that you can find a light note also in the parfum of the Greco.

The heart of the business activity, begun by Stefano's parents, Vitantonio and Vincenzina, is the Cellar, immersed in the marvellous family vineyards.

The success of the Farm Torricino rewards the determination, the passion, the courage of the one who has invested energies and resources to found an enterprise and to pursue the challenge of the High Quality.

The whole thing springs from the courage of a young entrepreneur. Only twenty-five-year-old, Stefano Di Marzo has not wasted time: he has soon cultiveted his dream to produce wines of quality.

Graduated in Oenology and Viticulture in 2002, he has created a concern guarded by a family background, that takes root in a historical strenghtened memory. In fact the family generations engaged in the Oenology and Viticulture are as many as four.

In the first Seventies it was Vitantonio Di Marzo who gives the beginning to an organized and rational management of the family -vineyards. He planted again the lands he had inherited by his father and then he started a slow and constant searching process of the best sites of Tufo, to buy and to plant with grapevine.

Today the farm develops on height holdings, strategically dislocated in the most famous viticultural areas of Tufo: Vignale, Ripa ai Corvi, Serrone, Torricino, Campanaro, Fellone, Santo Stefano e Saude.

"Our Vineyards have today an age between six and twenty-five years, with a density per a hectare that borders on three thousand stumps in the youngest vineyards. Only the vineyards that have more than ten years will give Greco of Tufo DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita = guarenteed quality Greco ). All the rest will give Irpinia Greco IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica = Typical Geographic Indication)".

Today the Vineyards are at guyots, planted again on American foot, after the phylloxeric invasion.

It harvests grapes manually between the second half of October and the first half of November.
