Description

The plain ensures strength and structure. The hill gives perfumes. The nearby sea rounds off, smoothes and enhances tastes. The sheltering Alps protect the vineyards of Angoris that are set like a precious cameo in the heart of that florid vineyard called Friuli.

The wines derive from the midst of the Angoris green, from it's three-hundred years of winery and vine-growing experience that tell all about that harsh and fertile land, about hard work, passion and experience: wines that capture the nuances of a territory in its perfumes and flavours.

The properties of Tenuta Angoris stretch across fifty hectares from Cormòns to the Colli Orientali up to the Collio area where the most important wines are produced. Here tradition, experience and innovation are combined as well as the search for the best that know-how and technology can offer to those who only have one main objective: to express their territory, to make the emotions of their land live through wine.

The Angoris vineyards are distributed over 130 hectares - out of the total 620 belonging to the estate - and cover three major controlled denominations of origin:

In this area, Angoris owns a 10-hectare estate called Ronco Antico, located on the hills between Cormòns and Dolegna del Collio near the Plessiva woods.

Arranged as an amphitheatre, consisting of one unit, the vineyards are exposed southwards on Eocenic-originating marl and sandstone soil that is typical on these hills.

The grapevine is mainly trained according to the traditional "Cappuccina" system except for the Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay vines that are trained using the "Guyot" system.

Since 1969 Angoris has been cultivating an estate in this area called Stabili della Rocca, located in Premariacco west of the long road connecting Corno di Rosazzo to Cividale. The vineyards, about 40 hectares in one unit, are located on four hills of Eocenic origin and are therefore characterized by marly soils, facing southeast. The two hills Colle Tunella and Ronc Pustot situated to the south, are traditional vineyards planted with very old Pinot Bianco, Tocai and Merlot vines that are trained according to the "Cappuccina " system, while on the other two hills, Ronc dal Clap and Ronc dal Pignul, located to the north the more recent Cabernet, Chardonnay, Ribolla and Sauvignon vines have been planted and are trained according to the "short Silvoz" and "Guyot" systems .

The vineyards lie near the private country house along trunk road 305 and the provincial road "of Angoris" in the centre of the alluvial plain between the hills of Mount Quarin and Medea.

The vines take root in loose and gravely soils originating from the catchment basin of the Isonzo river that flows some kilometres southwards.

The training systems adopted are three:

The first is a "Silvoz" system with short fruiting spurs used for the oldest vineyards; some of the Merlot and Cabernet areas are trained according to the two-tiered cordon system as an experimental selection.

The "Guyot" system is employed for the recent implants of Chardonnay and Sauvignon.

In March 2003 in front of the company entrance, the first 5 hectares of high density Sauvignon vineyards were planted with 7,200 vine stocks per hectare to produce top quality grapes with low yields thereby optimizing the cultivation methods.

The wines of Tenuta Angoris are proof of the results when combining tradition, experience and innovation in one objective: to express the best of it's territory.

From Cormòns, in the heart of the Isonzo Doc area, the extreme research for excellence leads Claudia and Massimo Locatelli to the slopes of the legendary hill of Rocca Bernarda - located in the Colli Orientali area - and to the esteemed vineyards of the Collio area in Dolegna.
