Description

The wines of Tenuta Cocci Grifoni come to life in the heart of the Marche region and are the most authentic and genuine feature of a charming corner of Italy. A region rich in art, nature, culture and age-old traditions, which are perfectly represented in the elegant works of art of the fifteenth century artist Carlo Crivelli, whose colours reflect the magnificent scenarios of the Marche region. A land where even cuisine is an art and, thanks to its enviable geographic location, combines the fish of its sea with its inland delicacies: cured meats, cheeses, jams, honey, olive oil, fragrant truffles, hand made pasta, simple yet tasty desserts, are just some enduring flavourable memories of those who visit this region. It is in this area of the ancient Piceno civilization, the pulsing heart of the Marche region, that the wines of Tenuta Cocci Grifoni mature, ready to awaken the taste buds and the heart to intense and authentic sensations and emotions.

Tenuta Cocci Grifoni is right in the heart of the Piceno land: from here you can set-off to discover quaint and charming medieval villages, such as Offida, Ripatransone and Acquaviva Picena, searching for historical remains that have crossed the centuries.

Nature enthusiasts will be absolutely delighted with these charming surroundings: on one side, just a few miles away, is the Adriatic coast with the seaside resort of San Benedetto del Tronto and Grottammare; on the other, the rolling hills that gradually rise up to Monti Sibillini:
the park is ideal for those who adore trekking and mountain bike excursions. Last but not least we have an important wine and food tasting tourism: the true pearl of this region.

The cuisine of this province preserves the best the land has to offer.

Let yourself go to cured meats, cheeses, pasta, honey, jams, desserts, mushrooms and truffles, not to forget the stuffed "Ascoli olives", which are a MUST.

Just imagine enjoying all this with one of our wines, to perfectly enhance all the scents and aromas of this fertile and proud region.

Ever since its establishment in 1970, Tenuta Cocci Grifoni has always been bound to research and innovation, but also to love of the land and to the desire to find the best way to pay tribute to the peculiarities of the grapevines of this region. The wine cellar bonds its debut to a primacy: that of being the first to bottle Rosso Piceno Superiore (vintage 1969).

Ever since the mid eighties, Guido Cocci Grifoni realised the potentials of the native grapevines and, in a situation where the market preferred to promote International wines, he started to experiment with Pecorino, a grape variety that dates back to 1871 and that at that time risked extinction. Right from the beginning, the wine obtained from the Pecorino grapevines revealed exceptional oenological characteristics and, thanks to the efforts and farsightedness of Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, was awarded DOC recognition in 2001.

Again with the aim to valorise native produce, another forgotten grape variety was recovered: Passerina, which Tenuta Cocci Grifoni offers, enhancing its typical, delicate, fruity and pleasantly elegant features, declining it in sparkling wine, brut wine, straw wine or grape spirit.Today, Tenuta Cocci Grifoni owns almost 200 acres of land and exploits cutting edge technologies for wine growing and vinification.

The new generation, all of which are ladies, has taken over the company from their parents Guido and Diana in its current condition and is working to expand it on the international market, without altering the original philosophy that remains absolutely faithful with the quality standard reached, genuine expression of a land with a past rich in breathtaking moments but with a dynamic present and a future still to be extensively explored.

Tenuta Cocci Grifoni is located in the heart of the Ascoli Piceno region: in Ripatransone, San Savino. On these rolling hills surrounded by rows of grapevines, lies the estate's main building, the wine cellars and stocks. This is also where visitors are greeted, looking over a magnificent terrace with breathtaking views of the ravines ('calanchi') of Ripatransone.

Here is where the wines age; here, year-in-year-out, new labels are studied; here is where you can find the most authentic taste, fascination and essence of this region, either through a guided tour or a wine tasting.

But it is by actually strolling along the rows of grapevines on the estates around the cellars that you really appreciate the character of this holding and feel the native spirit of its wines in full - authentic expression of the land where they grow: wines of excellence, bold, sincere, rich in hues. A pure blend of this region, of its nature, its history, traditions and culture.

Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, without ever neglecting its beliefs and constantly cultivating the passion of its founder Guido Cocci Grifoni for wine making, has chosen to valorise the resources of the land where it was first established.

These gentle hills facing the Adriatic coastline and near the Sibillini Mountains are fertile land for rows of vines and for the turning silver colour of the olive groves. A land that at a first glimpse appears to be harsh but that is in actual fact noble and proud and overall extremely generous.

It is here that the excellent wine production of the cellars comes to life, together with a pleasantly balanced, fruity and scented olive oil.
