Montegrimano Terme

Description

For who comes from Cattolica and Riccione, the Porta del Montefeltro is the main entrance of the medieval settlement of Montegrimano Terme. A spiral shaped town, built around the fortified walls of the castle (partially destroyed in the Middle Ages, by the troupes of Sigismondo Malatesta, Lord of Rimini), which today is a Civic Tower. Montegrimano Terme, located in the Valle del Conca, at very short distance from the Republic of San Marino, is a important touristic resort , famous for its architectural sites and for benefits of its mineral water springs.

Before year 1000 the stronghold was one of the castles of Montefeltro, offered by Ottone I to Ulderico di Carpegna. In the XIV century the town was dominated for a short while by the Papal State before returning to the Lords of Montefeltro, then it was ruled by the Malatesta, then Montefeltro again, until it finally became part of the Papal State.

Not to miss: the Church of San Silvestro, in Neoclassic style, simple and bright, preserves inside a wooden cross entitled to the local traditions and a painting of the Madonna delle Grazie, an example of the Veneto school and exposed on the right side of the main altar.

The small organ, with less than 500 pipes, has recently been refurbished by the local associations of the Region Marche.

Of the late XVII century is the Town Hall, previously the residence of the noble Family Massaioli, and purchased at the end of '800 by the citizens to become their municipal seat.
