Description

The Talamonti vineyard-estate was born in 2001 as a result of the introduction of innovative winemaking techniques into an historic winemaking area. This stride was generated by a tremendous passion for wine, the respect for a local culture, and above all the affection to our roots, the Abruzzo region. The founders of Talamonti, a group of 18 leading entrepreneurs, kicked off this adventure with the goal to promote the interest in Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, the historic grape varieties of the region. Today, this desire and objective are still vibrantly alive, yet paired with a great attention to detail and respect of the vine.

At Talamonti our mission is to continuously search for perfection in the art of viticulture, never forgetting our respect for tradition. The winemaking facilities include state-of-the-art equipment, necessary to produce fine wines that satisfy even the greatest of palettes of the world's wine aficionados.

The Talamonti winmaking philosophy is based upon two pillars: Firstly, the belief that there cannot be any innovation without tradition. Secondly, that the vine has always been and will continue to be first and foremost a nutrient of the body and soul.

In addition there is great respect for family values. Rural civilizations, with their strong ties to nature, always reveal the importance of a family approach in the management of land, production, staff, and even the marketplace.

The particular microclimate of the area produces grapes of the finest quality. These are subsequently vinified in a modern winery, created with the intent to value, through traditional winemaking techniques, the unique qualitative characteristics of the grapes.

The winemaker's profound knowledge paired to the constant commitment of the cellar master in the attentive processing of the ripest grapes, guarantees a high quality standard that thrives in the most complex of perfumes and aromas, all fully respectful of the land of origin.

The winemaking facilities were built in order to render the production process efficient, flexible and impeccable from a hygiene and sanitary point of view.

The grapes can be quickly transported and processed in respect of their sanitary and chemical conditions. Furthermore, the possibility of processing grapes, especially white ones (Trebbiano, Pecorino, Chardonnay) with inert gases (nitrogen and carbon dioxide) permits us to limit the use of antioxidants, improving the condition of the final product. The vinification area includes over 60 stainless steel vats with a capacity of over 5.000 HL.

The selection of the fermentation vats was made prioritizing especially those of smaller size: 25, 50, 100 HL in order to permit separate micro-vinifications from the different parcels controlled by the winery.

One of the greatest strengths of the Talamonti vineyard-estate is its constellation of single-vineyards surrounding the winery. These include an incredible variety of climate, soil texture and exposition that permit the production of versatile grapes with a myriad of organoleptic characteristics.

Only following their complete vinification and ageing are the different lots of wine blended with the final objective of enclosing in the final product all the aromatic and organoleptic characteristics that the soil of Loreto can express in the grapes.

The production process, the interventions, and operations are catalogued and managed by a central server that permits the control of the individual fermentation vats; guaranteeing an absolute traceability of the wines. This translates into a detailed recording of the production process and a careful management of each individual phase.

The 25 hectares of estate vineyards include native grape varieties from the region of Abruzzo such as Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecordino and Passerina. Alongside these local grape varieties, Talamonti continuous to experiment with successful international varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, in part, also in an attempt to increase its knowledge of its select parcels.

The vineyards, located on the slopes at the foot of the Gran Sasso, are exposed towards the Adriatic Sea in the central Italian winemaking area of Loreto Aprutino (PE). They benefit from a microclimate that is particularly favorable for the ripening of grapes with adequate temperature excursions.

The uniqueness of such a microclimate, a clear expression of any region of great viticultural vocation, favors fine wines that express their most complex flavors while simultaneously conveying their origin.

The Talamonti vineyard-estate has an underground cellar where the wines are quietly left to rest in small oak barrels of different dimensions (225lt and 6400lt). The cellars, with stable humidity levels and temperature levels guarantee a slow and gradual evolution of the wines, permitting us to take best advantage of the wood-wine ratio.

The wood utilized is exclusively French oak of different geographic origins (Allier, Troncais, Fontainebleau). The barrels are purchased from well-established suppliers of the trade in order to guarantee a high quality standard in terms of wood toasting and ageing. The barrel ageing varies from six to eight months for the white wines and 10-14 months for the red wines on the basis on the specific vintage and organoleptic characteristics found in the wine. Furthermore, during the ageing period regular analytical controls are made for chemical and microbiological data in order to monitor the optimal evolution of the wines.

At the end of the ageing period the different lots are stored in stainless steel vats and subsequently blended on the basis of the individual organoleptic characteristics. At this point the uniqueness of wines from different lots are blended into a harmonious marriage of aromas with inimitable characteristics.
