From its origins, at the beginning of last century, when it was acquired by its current owners, the ORLANDI CONTUCCI PONNO Farm has always produced wine. Located on the first hills of the valley by the Vomano river, a couple of miles from the Adriatic Sea and ten miles from the Gran sasso chain (2920 m.), it enjoys a climatically privileged position, benefitting from the thermoregulating influence of the sea as well as from high-mountain breeze that mitigate the heat of summer nights and allow vines a regular and continuous vegetative cycle, essential to the development of the organoleptic qualities of the grapes and to the perfume and "bouquet" of wines.
The soil where vines are grown is pebbly alluvional, with a specific calcareous composition, suitable for planting particular varieties of Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cabernet grapes, directly imported from France after some analyses had shown an identical composition to that of one of the most appreciated Bordeaux areas.
In this context we also tried to increase the value of some of the original local Montepulciano d'Abruzzo's clones.
This species was already present in this area at the beginning of the eighteenth century. We obtain the selection by screening their compatibility in accordance with the soils and microclimate. Particular attention given to the production cycle and to the vinification, allows this wine to compete with the most equilibrated italian wines.
