Ferrara and Forlì-Cesena

Description

The artistic and cultural development of the Province of Ferrara is linked to the peculiarity of its territory. In the Middle Age, the plain of Ferrara was a large marsh which during the XVth century, thanks to the ambitious plans of the Este family, the Signori of Ferrara, underwent a gradual reclamation aimed at making land productive and redeveloping the villages and the Medieval old town of Ferrara through modern works and architectures which contributed to make it the symbol of Renaissance.
The powerful Signori of Ferrara, whose domination over the territory lasted for more than 300 years, were rich magnates who gave Ferrara and the small surrounding resorts an inestimable artistic heritage. The architecture of Ferrara, along with the castles and residences known as the "Delizie Estensi" (The Estensi's Delights), built along the banks of the river Po, were appointed UNESCO Human heritage in 1999.
The province of Forlì Cesena is located in the central part of Romagna.
To be more precise, it is the heart of the region. A large area dotted with spas dating back to ancient times which stretches out from the fierce peaks of the Apennines, slopes down the hills covered with Albana and Sangiovese vineyards, over a rich and intensely farmed plain, as far as the sea, and the beaches of Cesenatico, San Mauro and Gatteo.
Everywhere a generous natural environment, sometimes sculpted by the caring hands of human beings, other times left to itself, such as the Casentinesi Forests, the oldest in Europe, which dominate the entire province from the top of the Apennine Mountains. Out of this respect and care for nature comes a series of top-quality and delicious gastronomic products.
A journey through the province of Forlì and Cesena is a chance to enjoy a land - the green heart of Romagna - full of charm and true excitement...and of course good food.
