San Costantino Albanese
Description
It is a small town in the province of Potenza, situated on a height of the Timpa of St. Nicholas, founded in the XVI century by a group of Greek-Albanians, that escaped from the city of Corone in the Morea region (Greece), during the Turkish-Ottoman occupation. For this reason in the area persist strong Greek and Byzantine uses, featured in the spoken language and religious traditions.
Not to miss:
- the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, building that dates back to the XVII century and in which are kept a red marble baptistery and valuable paintings, depicted between the XVI - XVIII centuries;
- the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Stella, built on an existing building of the Byzantine era, in which it is possible to admire interesting paintings of the XVII century and a Baroque altar of the same period;
- the Church of Our Lady of Grace;
- Palazzo Pace (XVII-XVIII century).
