Rome

Description

Rome is known as the "Eternal City"; since its foundation (on April 21st 753 b.C.) it has increased its importance, renown and wealth: "Roma caput mundi", capital of the Roman Empire and of the Ancient World, "Roma caput fidei", the center of the Catholic Church, the capital city of Italy from 1861.
Rome is also known as the "Urbe" (City) par excellence. The historic center encloses a good part of the world-wide artistic patrimony and it is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Every historical age left a tangible sign of its passing, from the Roman monuments to the Medieval ones, from the Renaissance to the Modern Times.
Let's think of Colosseum, Baths of Caracalla, Circus Maximus, Domus Aurea, Ara Pacis, Arch of Costantine, Pantheon, Trajan's Column, aqueducts, arches and several obelisks!
Do not forget Saint Peter's Basilica, the greatest church in the world, dominated by the imposing Michelangelo's dome, realized by Raffaello, Giuliano da Sangallo and Bramante; St. Paul's Basilica, the second greatest church in the world, "Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano" and "Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore".
Fontana di Trevi, realized by Nicola Salvi between 1732 and 1751, "Fontana della Barcaccia" (Fountain of the Hold Boat) in Piazza di Spagna, "Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi" in Piazza Navona, realized by Bernini and "Fontanone" (big fountain) at Gianicolo.
The historical palaces and those ones that house the institutions (Montecitorio Palace, Madama Palace, Quirinale Palace, Chigi Palace, Viminale Palace, Farnesina Palace, Marescialli Palace, Spada Palace, Consulta Palace), the theatres and the museums (Capitoline Museums, Ara Pacis Museum, Museo di Roma a Palazzo Braschi, Napoleonic Museum, Museo di Roma in Trastevere, Antiquarium del Palatino, National Gallery, Borghese Gallery, Colonna Gallery, Spada Gallery, Doria Pamphilj Gallery, Museo Centrale del Risorgimento, Medieval Museum, Museo Storico della Liberazione and many other specialized museums and cultural centers).
Rome, with its 2500 years old, preserves its charming, stateliness and, especially, its scent of...eternity!
