Licata

Description

Located at the scope of Monte di Licata, the area was inhabited since the Prehistoric Age, as many archaeological remains, now preserve at the Civic Museum, document.
Historically, the town is identified with the original Finziade, founded in 280 B.C. by Finzia, Tyrant of Agrigento. After the Greek nomination, the area was conquered by the Romans, Byzantines, Arabians, Normans, Angevines and Aragoneses; every domination left a mark of its passage: from the Arabian style of the Marina hamlet to the Baroque one of the main streets. Among the architectural monuments, we have to visit the Palazzo di Città, in liberty style designed by Ernesto basile, Sant'Angelo Castle (XVI century), the Mother Church dedicated to Santa Maria La Nuova, built in the XV century, and the Church of Sant'Angelo, which preserves the relics of the town's Patron Saint.
