Roman in origin, it was used in the past as a large warehouse, where goods were crammed into the cells, hence the name Cellole. During the Middle Age it became a defensive outpost for Sessa Aurunca that could not sight the signalling fires due to the fog.
At the centre of the Gulf of Gaeta, just before the mouth of the Garigliano river, Baia Domitia is a lovely touristic oasis with a balsamic pine forest and very fine sand. Here you can practice any sort of sports, from deltaflying to diving, from golf to waterskiing.
It is also famous for the production of buffalo mozzarella.
