Castellaneta Marina

Description

Castellaneta Marina is the seaside part of the town of Castellaneta, famous for being the birth place, in 1895 of the first real star of the cinema, Rodolfo Valentino. Castellaneta is situated at the centre of the "Regional Park of the Gravine", and it is divided between low clefts and ploughshare (a natural continue with not so steep sides) of "Carsica" origins that receive the rain and transport its flow to the sea through the river Lato.
Castellaneta Marina is part of a larger area, known as Bosco Pineto, which embraces the territories of Termitosa and Riva dei Tessali. This coastline is a biogenetic reserve and its characteristics is the presence of a 10km pine forest of Aleppo pines.
The pines "d'Aleppo" is a special dry season resistant wood variety similar to the domestic and maritime pine, but its look is slightly different due to a larger foliage at the top rather to the bottom.
The land settlement began in the 60's with tourist finalities after a land drainage. The beach is of fine sand and the dunes can be compared to fossils of large naturalistic interest. The area offers an important tourist organization and two golf courses.
