Description

We are a modern winery, located in the beautiful rolling hills of central Piemonte, hand producing fine full bodied red wines and a beautifully balanced Chardonnay wine, all typical of this region.

We are completely passionate about our wines and how we produce them and know that you will enjoy the experience of tasting and appreciating them because wine is a part of our life and we would like to share that with you.

Noceto Michelotti has a dedicated and professional management team who are passionate about creating wines of outstanding quality. The winery is personally managed by Graham and Margret Schratt-Kresfelder and our general manager Giovanni Conte. The technical management of the vineyard is meticulously overseen by renown agronomist Frederico Curtaz and our modern cellar is carefully monitored by internationally acclaimed oenologist Giuseppe Caviola and our wine maker Giacomo Mariotti.

Our wine farm is open all year round and we have guided tours and private wine tasting by appointment. If you would like to share with us the wonderful experience of making great wines in romantic Italy, please contact us to arrange an appointment.

Our climate is ideally suited for the vines with cold and wet winters with occasional snow falls and temperatures frequently falling as low as -5 degrees Celsius. Typical late winter rains ensure that the soil is deep watered and this is retained for the long hot and dry summer period during which temperatures may occasionally rise above 40 degrees Celsius.

Our mature Barbera vines are 35 years old and our Chardonnay vines are 20 years old. All our vines are trained in the single 'guyot' style giving us the opportunity to carefully monitor the development of the grapes on the vine. Advanced technology and farming developments now allow us to select specific energy zones and soil composition types when we are quality controlling the grape growth so that we can optimise harvesting and ensure that the grapes are perfectly mature when harvested.

We implement constant foliage and canopy management during the growing period of May, June and July to ensure that the grapes are given the very best opportunity to mature evenly and fully. During August we 'green harvest' reducing the amount of grapes on each vine allowing only selected grapes to fully mature ensuring that only the very best quality grapes are harvested.

Our harvest is undertaken by hand using small collecting baskets, typically during September, to ensure that the grapes are quality controlled, protected and arrive in the cellar in perfect condition within 3 hours of harvesting.

All of our vines carry the prestigious "deonominazione origine controllata" (DOC) or "deonominazione origine controllata garantita" (DOCG) classification, and we always harvest less quantity that decreed each year by the DOC and DOCG controlling body to ensure that we produce only the very best quality wines.

The modern cellar has been designed to optimise traditional methods of wine making whilst making use of the latest technological equipment and application of all hygiene requirements.

Upon arrival in the cellar the grapes are finally quality controlled and selected, and then with our unique grape washing and drying machine they are cleaned and dried before being de-stemmed and soft crushed and transferred to small temperature controlled stainless steel vats where they will ultimately ferment under the scrutiny of our oenologist and wine maker. Temperature controlled fermentation typically takes between 2 and 3 weeks during which time the liquid is constantly cycled to ensure maximum extraction of flavour, colour, aroma and body. Upon completion the young wine is then transferred, with the must being removed.

The wine is constantly analysed to ensure quality development and is stored for the "malic lactic" secondary fermentation either in small French oak barrels or in small temperature controlled stainless steel vats. When we are satisfied that we have achieved optimal results we allow the wines to mature and package our wine in protective cartons. We use only natural corc closures.

We have a modern bottling system on our estate that ensures that all bottles are thoroughly clean and sterilised before bottling and our wines are then aged in the bottle prior to release.

It is rare to find a winery that is able to control the quality of wine from the growing of the grapes to early hand pruning and hand harvesting and final bottling and ageing. We proudly present our fine wines to you for your ultimate satisfaction and enjoyment and know that you will enjoy them as much as we have enjoyed making them!

Please drink responsibly and do not allow under age drinking. Please dispose empty bottles in easily accessible glass recycling containers near you. Do not drink and drive.
