Description

The mission of the Cantina Valpolicella Negrar is still now to increase the value of itsmembers activity, producing excellent wines and promoting culture and knowledge of viticulture and oenology.

Today the company advises and coordinate the activity of around200 grape growers, across a total of 500 hectares, all located on the hillsides of the Valpolicella Classico region to the north west of Verona.

Growers are encouraged to cultivate their vines with maximum respect for the naturalenvironment and to safeguard biodiversity. The Cantina and its members have also been able to work together to identify sites suitable for single vineyard wines and to produce special selections and even individual "cru" wines. Experience gained over many years has allowed us to use our winemaking skills t develop a range of various Amarone, Reciotos and Valpolicellas. Historically the winery has also worked hand in hand with growers in other famous viticultural zones near Verona, which allows the Cantina to offer other high quality wines such as Soave, Bianco di Custoza and Bardolino.

Total production of the Cantina is today over 8 millions bottles per year, obtained by more than 60.000 quintals (13 million lb.) grapes. The winery has a total capacity for oak ageing of around 12.000 hl.

We use the neme "Domini Veneti" for the best wines selected from our own production. This range is the result of a long term project, looking at both viticulture and winemaking to add value and improve the quality produced fro local soils. The name was chosen to refer back to expansion of the Republic of Venice in around 500 AD, when the lands around Valpolicella came under its rule. Today, tis "golden age" is reflected in the quality and image of the wines Domini Veneti, through which we aim to offer our customers all over the world a taste of the best of our region.

Cantina Valpolicella Negraradvises and coordinates the activity of around 200 grape growers, across a total of 500 hectares, all located on the hillside of the Valpolicella Classico region to the north west of Verona. A team of dedicated viticulturalists keeps this vineyards under constant supervision, visiting all growers regularly to provide advice and guidance.

The most common cultivation method used by the members of the Cantina is the traditional "Pergola Veronese" with around 2,500 to 3,000 vines per hectare and the average age of the vines is around 20 years old.

More recently planted vineyards use a higher planting density and various forms of training such as Guyot and Cordon, with vertical shoot positioning.

We aim to increase quality, whilst minimising our impact on nature and the environment, so we practise integrated viticulture and use the fewest possible number of treatments on the vines. The harvest is carried out completely by hand and may include several selections. We keep the harvest from each vineyard separate to allow us to carry out individual vinifications to preserve the unique characteristics of its grapes.

In 1998 the Cantina started its "quality project"with the aim of identifyingthe best vocated locations from which, with a hard job by the side of grape growers, grapes of extraordinary quality level were obtained.

After some years thisselection has taken to the birth of the most important cru of Domini Veneti range.
