Our families were farmers for many generations, like many other families in the Langhe, and until 10 years ago all the grapes produced were destined to be sold to negociants and the big co-ops in the area. This method gave us little satisfaction because importance was not given to the quality of the grapes, but rather the quantity and the lowest price possible.
We took over the farm from our families, then in 1992 Mauro decided to change following the example of his friend and neighbor, Elio Altare. He began to drastically reduce the number of grapes per hectare and started to vinify on his own in his new cantina. Utilizing shorter macerations with temperature controlled rotary-fermenters and aging in French barrique, he started to produce, little by little, wines that were more elegant and less aggressive thanks to the reduced tannins even if the
wines were more concentrated because of the higher quality grapes.
The farm consists of approximately 11 hectares in the communes of La Morra and Monforte and we produce about 55,000 bottles, half of which is Barolo DOCG. This size allows us to have a family run winery while maintaining high quality and making necessary investments in new technology and machinery.
We produce four different Crus of Barolo; Arborina, Rocche and Gattera (located in La Morra), and Castelletto(located in Monforte d'Alba and belonging to Mauro's father in law).
The other wines that we produce are Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba Cascina Nuova and L'Insieme(an assemblage that is a concrete symbol of friendship and cooperation between nine small producers of the Langhe).
This collaboration allows us to look for a higher quality in the wines and through the Association L'Insieme ONLUS to collect funds for various social causes(more information can be found at www.linsieme.org).
Naturally it is always possible to taste our wines at our cellar. Visitors are always welcome, we just ask that you call first to organize a visit.
