Description

The "Masottina" wine-growing and wine-producing company was established in 1946 on the slopes of the Conegliano hills. An art and wine town, called the "pearl of Veneto" because of its harmonious urban structure, Conegliano, only km 50 from Venice, was already famous in the Middle Ages for its prestigious wines that were sent all over Europe.

From the vineyards wreathing its sweet hills, the town appears in all its splendour, with the richness of its extraordinary medieval and Renaissance architecture. A capital of wine for more than 2,000 years, it boasts Italy's most ancient oenological school; yet, above all, it is a place where happy encounters take place, what with a millennium-old civilisation and extremely sweet landscapes, -the centre of one of Italy's most celebrated oenological districts, whose wines are renowned and demanded the world over.

On the southern slopes of Conegliano's bright hills, where, on the land of an ancient monastery, one of Masottina's new locations is being set up, vines have been cultivated for more than 2,000 years and - nowadays - with modern criteria, thus producing grapes that have already been pre-selected in the countryside to obtain high- and renowned-quality wines.

This is where the Prosecco is born - a fresh white, fruity, extremely pleasant wine-, which is appreciated throughout the world. From the grapes of these hills also other wines are generated: the white Rizzardo from the Conegliano hills - a balanced blend of Incrocio Manzoni, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Rhineland Riesling and Montesco, a wonderful red wine from the Conegliano hills, produced with Bordeaux species of wine, which is wisely refined in French oak barrels in order to achieve a solid and balanced structure and a rich and satisfying bouquet, that is able to narrate - to the world -our great love for wines and the extraordinary oenological civilisation this land offers.

Over the years, we have been able to further consolidate our company, by enriching it with new vineyards on the Conegliano hills, as well as in the Piave country. It is in these cultivated vineyards -set at the very heart of the Piave land - at Gorgo del Monticano and Mogliano Veneto- that great red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are made, produced from the Ai Palazzi species of wine, that ripen slowly, according to the ancient tradition, in oak barrels. Here also the Chardonnay and the Pinot Grigio are born, elegant expressions of a serious and mature oenological culture. The charming encounter between the best tradition and modern productive techniques, that have been tested for years, guarantees these wines a quality primacy acknowledged at the foremost oenological exhibitions the world over.

In recent years we have consolidated our estate by adding new vineyards both in the hills of Conegliano and on our terrain close to the river Piave. We also built modern headquarters at Castello Roganzuolo, just outside Conegliano, equipped with the most advanced technologies for the production of wine, maturation of important red wine, bottling and sale. In this winery we have created the most rational encounter of ancient tradition with the most advanced wine-making technology.

Our firm - projected into the future and respectful of nature's laws -while continually committed to increasing at its best the worth of our own output, pay no less attention to territorial evolution in both wine growing and making. In fact, we collaborate with the Conegliano-based Experimental Wine-growing and Wine-making Institute and with the Universities of both Padua and Piacenza, with which we have started up some important experimentation projects.
