Description

The Boscaini family have been the owners of the Masi vineyards for six generations. Sandro Boscaini is the company president. The other members of the family involved are Sandro's children: Alessandra and Raffaele, and his brothers: Bruno who looks after the production processes, and Mario who is a sleeping partner in the company.

The company remains strictly family-owned, but its management style is highly professional and open to international influences. The Board of Administration is composed of board members Bruno Boscaini, Mario Boscaini, Raffaele Boscaini, Giovanni Gajo and Maurizio Masetti with Sandro Boscaini as its president. The company's activities are divided into six areas of competence run by expert managers.

The technical achievements and the high quality level in the wines which is internationally recognized, are the result of the MTG's intensive research and experiments. For a long time, this team of people has been involved in ongoing research with the goal of restoring the viticultural and enological heritage of Venetian premium wines. Not only quality wines, but wines of personality and originality, result of the tight link with the traditional values and modernization through advanced technologies. Thanks to this Group, Masi is a pioneer in the experimentation and use of secondary Veronese grape varieties (Oseleta, Dindarella, Croatina, Negrara and Forsellina) in addition to the principal grapes (Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara). Furthermore, Masi has carefully studied the production of wines from dried grapes, that led to propose a new style of Amarone that helped its recent worldwide success.

The MTG is involved in a variety of research projects, also in collaboration with some Universities, has organized tasting seminars and has published numerous papers in Italy and abroad.

Masi is a specialized producer of premium wines from the Venetian area. This led Hugh Johnson to refer to Masi as "a touchstone for Verona wines". The winery is specialized in the production of Amarones and Reciotos, using the historic technique of "appassimento" (drying of the grapes), and has gained worldwide reputation, the only one producing seven different types. Five of them are single vineyards (cru) which have been selected by Masi beginning from the fifties.

Masi rediscovered and refined the technique of double fermentation using semi-dried grapes, and markets successful wines such as Campofiorin, its special selection Brolo di Campofiorin, Valpolicella dell'Anniversario Serego Alighieri and Passo Doble, produced in Argentina.

The history of Masi is the history of its vineyards. Its name derives from "Vaio dei Masi" (little valley of the Masi in the valley of the Negrar, in the Valpolicella classico zone), the first vineyard acquired by the Boscaini family, owners of Masi, at the end of the 18th century.

The winery has grown through successive and very careful acquisitions, which were selected for the quality of their terrain and location as well as for their historical importance, beginning from the classico zones of Valpolicella, Bardolino and Soave. In the last ten years the company developed projects in other prestigious viticultural areas of the Venetian region and more recently in Tuscany, in partnership with Serego Alighieri, and in Argentina.
