The agricultural farm "La Giaretta" is located in Valgatara, a small hill town that lies in the heart of the Classic Valpolicella region, an area in the province of Verona with a high wine-production tradition, known all over the world for the quality of its products. For several generations, the members of this family-run business have been producing and bottling wine obtained exclusively from grapes grown on their privately owned land. Thanks to the limited size of the business, it has always been possible to reserve special care to all the processing phases of the product: from the growing of the grapevines, through the harvest, the winemaking process, the ageing process and finally to the bottling and the selling process. The range of wines produced can satisfy any possible need. Indeed, our production ranges from the Passito Bianco to the classic D.O.C. (denomination of controlled origin) wines, such as the Valpolicella, the Valpolicella Superiore, the Amarone and the Recioto.
For the most demanding customers, the winery has produced a line of wines that are even more prestigious: "I Quadretti," comprising an Amarone and a Valpolicella Superiore aged and refined in French durmast wood barrels.
The agricultural farm La Giaretta owns approximately ten hectares of land destined to the growing of grapevines, located in the heart of the Classic Valpolicella region, in the town districts of Marano di Valpolicella, Negrar and San Pietro in Cariano, at an altitude of approximately 200 meters. The best part of the vineyards is located in Valgatara, small hamlet of Marano. Here there is a piece of land, denominated "I Quadretti" by the ancestors of the Vaona family because it was divided in equal squares. It is located in the hilly strip where the exposure to the sun is best and where the oldest grapevines are, which, as common knowledge has it, "give" the best wine. This is where the family business obtains its top-of-the-line "I Quadretti" wines. The motto of the Vaona family says that to have quality in a glass one has to start first of all with quality on the land.
This is why a great amount of time is dedicated to the land, the grapes are pruned to obtain a more concentrated product and the leaves are thinned out to get a better exposure for the grapes....
Soil: alluvial, stony, morainic, with good exposure, hilly and airy
Growing method: Veronese bower (3000 stumps per hectare) and Guyot (5000 stumps per hectare).
The agricultural farm "La Giaretta" is a family-run business where family members personally oversee every aspect of the product processing: from the young vines to the sale.
From several previous generations of winegrowers Francesco has inherited the passion and the love for this job: a hard job that certainly grants great satisfaction the moment the wines obtained from this kind land and the many sacrifices are tasted.
In the winery the modern steel tanks are found alongside the more traditional French durmast wood barrels that are used for the ageing and refinement processes of the more prestigious wines.
