Description

CHIARLI 1860 is the oldest producer of Lambrusco and other wines in Emilia.

The winery was founded in 1860 by Cleto Chiarli who, until that date, managed the "Trattoria dell'Artigliere" in the centre of Modena and was already producing his own Lambrusco for the habitués of his restaurant.

The great appreciation and admiration of his wines encouraged Cleto Chiarli to set up new premises for the production of Lambrusco in greater quantities to sell to a wider market.

Thus was Cantina Chiarli established back in 1860.

Chiarli has faithfully handed down from generation to generation the rigorous principles of seriousness, honesty and the greatest respect for quality, thus ensuring the appreciation and affection of an ever increasing clientele.

Over 145 years have passed since its foundation and the Chiarli name is, more than ever, a benchmark for traditional quality Lambrusco.

Lambrusco, known even in Roman times, is a wine of ancient origins which thanks to its natural fizziness, is more suitable than ever before to the requisites of modern eating habits.

Lambrusco comes in various types and, each being different, largely satisfy the various tastes of the consumer.

Chiarli own 7 farms (estates), 6 located in the DOC wines area of Modena and one is based in the DOC wine area Colli Bolognesi, Bologna province.

On the whole, the property is 414 hectares, 131 are vineyards while the other are grown as forage to breed the cattle used for the production of the Parmigiano Reggiano made in the cheese farm belonging to the Chiarli Estate.

CHIARLI-1860 sales during 2004 over 25 millions of bottles, reinforcing its position among the private Companies producing Lambrusco both in terms of invoiced and in volume while confirming the leadership in the Lambrusco DOC with more than 10 millions bottles.

The 2004 turnover is spread for 55% in Italy and for 45% abroad.

In Italy, Chiarli wines are sold to wholesalers, restaurants and main retailers either with the Chiarli brand or with own / exclusive label.

Abroad, CHIARLI-1860, besides having several importers/distributors, has important trading relation with the retail market concerning both the Chiarli brand and private labels.

The agreement made with this clientele has implied remarkable changes to the production site, logistics and quality control according to the parameters required by these customers.
