Description

The Castello Santa Maria was a heritage for people from Camaldoli in the 15th century and was then expanded by the "Congregazione dei servi di Maria" (Congregation of S. Mary's servants). Today it's a historical building and we offer a B&B service, half board, or full board, if requested. The structure includes a small church in which there are two frescos by Lorenzo da Viterbo, which date from around 1444.
The rooms within the Castle and the cottages on the grounds are surrounded by olive-trees and are a perfect mix of traditional 15th century design and modern comforts.

Cooking is our specialty, and this varies from classic to international dishes without forgetting the local traditions. Our ingredients are always fresh and of the best quality and are usually of local origin. Our professional staff is led by Serena who graduated from the Paul Bocuse Institute, Lion - France. Our catering ranges from romantic candlelit dinners for two to any kind of function of up to 200 guests in the tranquil atmosphere of our rooms, which are furnished with elegance, luxury and good taste.
The Castello Santa Maria is the ideal location for weddings, meetings, or relaxing weekends!

The farm business produces extra-virgin olive oil of the highest quality, which is solely obtained from the 3500 trees of different varieties (moraiolo, raio, pendolino, frantoio and canino) grown in our 30 hectares of groves. It also produces a large variety of jams. Finally a wide range of sweet products including chocolate, nougat, fruit jellies, soft candies and macaroons are all homemade by Serena. The ingredients are of the highest quality: Valrhona's chocolate, Bronte's pistachio, Bourbon vanilla... And are all available for purchase at the Castello!

Castello Santa Maria organizes cooking, confectionary and bakery courses. These can be arranged by request for groups ranging from 2 to 8 people. You'll be instructed by Serena, Luciana and Diego. The pool offers a panoramic view of the Calanchi Valley and Civita di Bagnoregio, and is open from 9:30 A.M. until 6:30 P.M., April to October; and is exclusively for our guests. The olive-trees and the surrounding, aromatic rose bushes help create a peaceful and relaxing ambiance that aids in the brief escape from our normally busy and chaotic lives. (Pool sizes: 20mt x 7mt) We can organize light lunches, aperitifs and dinners (for 2 to 30 people) under a wood pergola, illuminated by candle light.

Castello Santa Maria is between Lazio and Umbria, an ideal position in the middle of Italy. It is close to many historical, cultural and tourist locations: Orvieto, famous for its cathedral dome and the underground old town; Viterbo, the Popes' town with its Etruscan thermal baths; Bagnaia, the Pope's summer residence; Todi, the "most livable town of Italy;" Bolsena lake and its Bisentina Island; Bagnoregio with Civita, the "dying village;" Montefiascone, crossed by the "via Francigena;" and at a slightly greater distance, Perugia, Assisi, Siena, Arezzo, and obviously Rome and Florence.

Tennis, horseback riding, sailing and a spa are available in the neighborhood (max 25 km).

English, French and German are all spoken here.
