VILLA GUARIGLIA
Villa Guariglia is an elegant and sumptuous villa located in Raito, hamlet of Vietri sul Mare; it is not only the most important noble palace of the town but also a monument and a symbol. Owned by Raffaele Guariglia, Neapolitan nobleman and Minister for Foreign Affairs during the Badoglio Government, it was donated to the Provincial Administration of Salerno, in order to create a Study Center to Raffaele Guariglia's memory.
THE CERAMICS MUSEUM
Today Villa Guariglia houses the Ceramics Museum. The exhibition, located in the Tower and in the ground floor of the Villa, is composed by precious pieces of antique ceramics, works of art by Richard Dölker, Elle Schwarz (Dölker's wife), Irene Kowaliska, Margarete Thewalt Hannash (known as Bab), but also local artists, such as Giovannino Carrano, Vincenzo Pinto, Giosuè and Salvatore Procida and Guido Gambone.
A section of the exhibition is dedicated to the famous "riggiole", typical local ceramic tile, used in flooring and lining applications.
THE VILLA
Villa Guariglia is surrounded by a wonderful park, rich in typical Mediterranean vegetation, overlooking the sea of the Amalfi coast and the entire Gulf of Salerno.
Everything in the Villa is set at the same place where it has been left by the Ambassador Raffaele Guariglia: the pictures in the living room, the collection of painted and decorated mother of pearl fans (over 100), the silverware, porcelain, weapons and a rich library, composed by over 4000 books, some of which were written by the Ambassador.
Not too far from the Villa, there is a small chapel, dedicated to St. Vito; at the entrance an Egyptian alabaster slab, King Faud's gift.
