The seventeenth century building of Pio Monte della Misericordia is composed of the Church dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy and the Picture Gallery with works from fifteenth to nineteenth century. The 150 pictures are by the most famous painters who worked in Naples as Luca Giordano, Vaccaro, Stanzione, Caracciolo and Ribera; the collection given by the painter Francesco De Mura is very interesting. But the complex's feather in the cap is the large oil painting on the High Alter made by Caravaggio between 1606 and 1607: Le sette Opere di Misericordia, inspired to the famous artist by the Neapolitan typical alleys.
