Cilento Coast

The Cilento area (from Latin "cis-Aulentum" that means "on this side of the Alento river") is a place where myths, legends, ancient philosophical schools and millennial traditions are strictly connected with a natural landscape of rare beauty and a culinary wisdom, which is at the basis of the world-famous Mediterranean diet.
The Latin poet Vergilius tells that Palinurus, Aeneas's pilot, died on the Cilento's cost; in the Argonautica, Jason thanks the goddess Hera at the sanctuary of Hera Argiva in Paestum. Here the famous Eleatics philosophic school, whose members were Parmenides, Zeno, Xenophanes and Melissus, was founded. Here there is one of the most important Greek site of the whole Magna Grecia, Paestum; finally, here you can admire the sole example of a Greek round arch (Porta Rosa in Velia).
Ancel Keys, the American doctor, lived here for over 40 years and realized the healthiness of the Mediterranean diet observing the locals' lifestyle and food.

There are thousand reasons to visit the Cilento!
