Sagron-Mis

Description

Sagron Mis is a small town in the province of Trento, set at the border of the Trentino-Alto Adige region, along the river Mis, on the eastern side of Pale di San Martino. It is composed by two villages, Sagron and Mis, located in a valley between Passo Cereda and Agordino.
The town has recent origins, because the area was entirely covered by woods until the XVI century; after the felling of the trees, a small village was created whose inhabitants were mostly shepherds. The economy of the town changed after the discovery of mines of gold, mercury and cinnabar.
It is set between two protected areas: the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino natural park and the National Park of the Belluno Dolomites, enjoying both a wonderful view and the winter sports at the nearby San Martino di Castrozza-Passo Rolle ski area.
Attractions:
- the parish Church of Sagron, built in 1630 and refurbished in the XVIII century; after a terrible fire it was rebuilt in the first years of the XX century. Inside it is possible to admire a valuable XVIII century statue of Madonna di Loreto;
- the XX century Church of Madonna delle Grazie, in Mis;
- the small Church of Beata Vergine di Caravaggio, dating back to the XVII century, place of pilgrimage;
- the votive capitals;
- El Palazh, built in the first years of the XX century in Austrian style, projected to host many activities and services for a small village of the borders of the Austrian Empire.
