Carano

Description

Located on a natural terrace, overlooking the Val di Fiemme and with spectacular views of the Lagorai and the Pale di San Martino, Carano is a quaint town in the province of Trento, typical mountain aspect. Surrounded by a natural landscape of woods and long stretches of orchards, Carano owes its fame to a source of water and limestone and magnesium sulfate, with remarkable therapeutic properties, which are useful for the treatment of rheumatic diseases and skin.
Although the first written documents in which it appears the name of the village date back to the XII century, the area seems to have been inhabited since the Iron Age. The town's name, according to some historians, derives from the name of a Roman "praedium", who ruled in the area. The Community of Fiemme, was governed by three annually elected Regolani, that administered according to the local customs with the consent of the majority of Vicini, gathered under one "Regola Generale" (General Rule).
In Summer, the town offers the possibility of interesting excursions: on foot, horseback or mountain biking; while in Winter, the nearby the slopes of the ski area Lavazè-Oclini are a paradise for lovers of skiing and Alpine skiing. The ski complex of Fiemme-Obereggen, is fully equipped with updated plant systems, but can also be reached by ski bus.

Not to miss:
- the Church of St. Nicholas, consecrated in 1193, rebuilt in the XVI century and extended in the first half of the XIX century, is flanked by a Gothic tower with no spire. The gable is depicted with a reproduction of a painting of Longo, while on the façade, there is a Madonna and Child by the artist Rasmo;
- the Church of Our Lady of Aguai.
