Abano Terme
Description
Abano Terme is the oldest and most important spa in Europe. Delightfully sighted at the foot of the Euganean Hills it is right in the centre of the region of Veneto. The Euganean spas are worldwide famous for the mud and spa treatments.
The presence of Roman ruins at Abano bears witness to the importance of the place and its miraculous waters since ancient times. The origins of the city's name can be traced back to the name of Aponus, God of spa waters.
The spa waters fall into the category of deep underground waters. They are of meteoric origin and derive from the uncontaminated basins of the Lessini Mountains in the foothills of the Alps, passing through calcareous rocks and into the subsoil at a depth of approximately 80 kilometer route that takes an average of 25/30 years. During this time they take on mineral sals and finally reach the Euganean Spas where they spring forth at a temperature of 87°C. The abundance of the dissolved substances make this water a unique thermal resource, one of its kind in the world. From the chemical point of view these waters are classified as hyperthermal sodiobromidiodic waters.
After the spa treatments, do not forget to visit the town, and especially the Cathedral of St. Lorenzo(1780), "Piazza del Sole e della Pace" (Sun and Peace Square), The Sanctuary of Monteortone and The Montirone Gallery.
